For those looking a glimpse of the real Indonesia, or just a fun night out, Sulawesi mixes old world charm with a modern and vibrant night life. 

 

The island of Sulawesi is one of the remotest parts of Indonesia. Its unique jigsaw-puzzle-piece shape creates four peninsulas, each of which represents a separate region of the island. Most visitors travel first to the southern region and its capital Makassar (Ujung Pandang), as this is the island’s main entry point and largest city. Sulawesi’s second city is Manado in the north.

 

The real highlights of Sulawesi are found in the surrounding seas and its lush volcanic interior. Fantastic jungle trekking is available in the pristine uncrowded forests of Lore Lindu National Park, Dumoga Bone National Park, and Tangkoko National Reserve. Dramatic active volcanoes surround charming highland towns like Tomohon, a great base in itself for treks and freshwater lakes.

 

However, Sulawesi is categorized one of the best trekking and adventure spot in Indonesia. Parks like Tangkoko National Park, Dumoga Bone National Park, Lore Lindu National Park and Toraja Land are legendary for intrepid adventurous willing to make the journey.

 

Keep in mind that Sulawesi is a remote and rustic part of the world. Infrastructure is basic and amenities scarce in all but the main cities like Manado and Makassar. There are also underlying ethnic and religious tensions that occasionally flare up so plan carefully before making the journey to this adventurous destination.

 

 

 

Upon arrival in Manado airport, you will be met by our tour guide and then transfer you to Tangkoko National Park. Just relax after a long flight or take a walk along the beach or village but if you are not that tired, then a jungle trek into Tangkoko National Park can be done to see tarsius (the smalles primate in the world). Back to homestay, dinner & overnight.

 

If you were too tired yesterday then early morning jungle trek before dawn time will be done. Back to homestay for breakfast and then drive back to Manado. Check in at a hotel. In the afternoon, go to Shiatsu Massage & Spa center for relaxing. In the evening, you will be on your own for exploring Manado City and dinner. (B)

 

At 8 am, check out from hotel and drive up to highlands of Minahasa for full day tour visiting many interesting places and at the end of the day, check in at one of the resorts in Tomohon. (B)

 

At about 7 am, you will be picked up by our guide and take you for volcano trek at Mt. Mahawu through farms and panoramic route. Lunch at Tondano Lake side restaurant and then drive back to Manado. Check in at a hotel. Dinner at a seaside restaurant in the suburb of Manado city. (B)

 

Today, you will take to airport and then fly to Palu, Central Sulawesi and upon arrival in Palu, you will be welcome by a local trekking guide and then transfer you to hotel. Free program or a city tour can be done in the afternoon. (B)

 

After breakfast, you will depart by 4WD car for Kamarora, hearquarters of Lore Lindu National Park. Arriving mid-morning, you can spend the day exploring the nearby jungle. (B,L,D)

 

Leaving after an early breakfast, you will drive to Watutau, a small village in the Napu Valley, enjoying panoramic scenery en route. Arriving early afternoon, you can walk to the village over a rattan hanging bridge and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the village. (B,L,D)

 

Today you will cruise the Lariang river to the village of Torite, observing on the way many species of water birds. Arriving at midday, the afternoon is yours to explore the village. (B,L,D)

 

Leaving early, you will trek (4 hours) through forest to the Besoa valley, spending the night at either Bariri or Doda village (B,L,D)

 

Today you will tour to the valley, examining some of the curious stone megalithic that dot the area. (B,L,D)

 

Spend a whole day trekking through thick forests, perhaps en route catching sight of the strange dwarf buffalo (anoa). (B,L,D)

 

Another day of trekking. First to the Sepe plateau to see the giant megalith "Palindo" then to Gintu village, capital of the Bada district. Here, the local people will greet you with dinner and a traditional dance. (B,L,D)

 

Today you will drive 6-8 hours along scenic unsealed mountain roads to lake Poso, arriving at Tentena late afternoon. Night will be spend at Siurri cottage (lake shore accommodation). (B)

 

Arriving at Bancea after a 3-hour cruising on the Poso Lake by motorized canoe. A tour to the Bancea forest to view the orchids. Proceed to Pendolo for check-in to Mulia Poso Lake hotel. (B,L)

 

Set out earlier morning to drive to Toraja. Late afternoon arrive in Toraja, check-in at a hotel in Toraja/Rantepao. (B)

 

During these days, you will do trekking and tour arround Toraja Land. (B)
